As Saranac Lake Winter Carnival winds down, the last big events of the celebration include the Gala Parade on Saturday, Feb. 8, followed by the I Love NY Winter Carnival Slide Show and the Guide Boat Realty "Storming of the Palace" Closing Fireworks Display at the ice palace on Sunday, Feb. 9, bringing this 2014 edition to a close. The fireworks and slideshow are a not-to-be-missed event, beginning at 7:30 pm.
There are lots more events on tap between now and the closing day, February 9, so get out and participate in this longest-running winter carnival in America!
Pendragon theatre
On February 8 and 9, a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories take the stage in "Radio Plays". Stories performed formerly over the airwaves come to life on the Pengradon Stage. Live sound effects will highlight the artsts' performances. A unique and fun exerience in live theatre, which will be recorded to play on air at a later date. This sounds like real fun!

COMPETE FOR BIGGEST FISH!
Two ice fishing derbies highlight the area calendars this winter. The first is Tupper Lake's 2014 NYS Pro-Am Ice Fishing Tournament, the second in a series around the state. With some fairly large prizes, the event should attract the competitive as well as the fun-seekers to this mid-winter fishing derby, February 15 on Big Tupper Lake.
Also in the ice fishing department is the 30th Annual Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby on March 1. With both adult and youth divisions, all entrants may fish for trout, salmon and perch in Lake Colby, and northern pike from other area waterways. The Colby Classic is a fun, family enent with door prizes and a 50-50 drawings and raffles. The event is focused on getting children involved in ice fishing.
adirondack carousel rocks
A boatload of performers will highlight the 4th Annual North Country Musicians Unite for Local Food Pantries, this year at the Adrirondack Carousel on Feb. 22. From noon on, rock out with this family-friendly free concert with food and beverages available. Attendees are asked to bring donations of cash and food for the local food pantry.
There are so many events going on the next few weeks in the Saranac Lake Region I can't possibly list them all in this limited space, so make sure you check the complete events calendar for a more comprehensive run-down.
