A most popular weekly summer event comes to a close with the final Third Thursday Art Walk on September 19th. Galleries and sidewalks come alive with artists and musicians performing and doing demonstrations all up and down the Historic Downtown district of Main Street and Broadway. Be sure to check out the small alleys as well for hidden treasures and performers tucked away on porches overlooking the river (as in the video above).
Paul Smiths, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake weekly Farmers Markets continue with this being one of the best times to shop the bountiful harvests of our local producers. In addition, Lake Clear Lodge will sponsor an Old World Kitchen Market on various days this fall.
In the heritage department, several historic tours will be offered by Historic Saranac Lake during this month, including tours of the former Trudeau Sanitorium (currently American Managerment Assoc headquarters) and "Little Red" Cottage (the original cure cottage of Trudeau's Adirondack Cottage Sanitorium).
Also, on September 18 and 25, make plans to take a tour of White Pine Camp, summer White House of President Calvin Coolidge. These will be the last two tours of the season at White Pine.
At the end of September, don't miss the annual Artist at Work Studio Tour. Stretching from Tupper Lake to Onchiota, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Wilmington and Jay and all points in between, this is a fantastic opportunity to see our notable Adirondack artists at work in their own spaces, with a chance to purchase art directly from the artist. My husband and I participated in the tour last year and had some remarkable conversations with local artists I'd never met. It was a really fun way to spend the day and tour the countryside at the same time during the peak of the foliage season.
With many, many more events filling the schedule, be sure to check out the complete calendar of events. See you on the Artist at Work Tour!
