Lets do this! With less than a week until Christmas, its time to check those final things off your gift list. In Saranac Lake, shopping downtown offers a low-pressure experience and so many different options. Plus, smaller stores mean shorter lines. So, go! Find the ideal gift, make it meaningful…and get back to enjoying the holiday season. Here are six gifts for those types sure to be on your list:
1. The Kid At Heart
Even adults like to get gifts that are fun! Sure, you could go the safe route and buy a sweater or scented candle. But why not pick something that will offer hours of happiness — such as a board game! Of course, you can always give the gift to an actual kid.
Check out Goody Goody's on Broadway. They have an unreal selection of board games for all ages, abilities, and interests. Not to mention rows upon rows of legos, and other cool, hard-to-find toys. The shopping experience here is interactive and entertaining — the shops greeter pup, Norton, will warm your heart.
2. The Functional Fashionista
Saranac Lake delivers on small-mountain-town-style. In a place that believes cool is being yourself, our shops inspire you to do you. You can't go wrong with gifting a pair of unique and comfortable shoes.
Make The Village Mercantile, located right on Main Street, your first stop. Locally energized and community owned, they carry Adirondack-made items, books, jewelry, yarns, apparel, and shoes. This is shopping that feels good.
3. The Weekend Warrior
Let's face it — wouldn't we all like to be a full-time explorer? Truth is most of us only have a couple days a week, so when it's go-time, you better be prepared. Hook up your weekend warrior with what they need. Not sure what gear they have? You can never go wrong with a map!
Tucked off the main road on Dorsey Street, St. Regis Canoe Outfitters is a paddlesports shop. Canoes, kayaks, and paddles fill the large space. They also have all the extras, from camp stoves to fishing poles. When the staff isn't on shift they are out on adventures themselves — so they know the area and will direct you to the right gift.
4. The Eclectic Collector
Everyone needs something bold and beautiful. A black and white pendant of a beloved Adirondack bird fits the bill. Depending on who you gift this to, it could be a symbol of their straight-up crazy character or that you find them a smart and interesting creature in their own right.
Love Loons? So does Saranac Lake. The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation on Broadway is focused on research, education programs, and conservation. But the loon-related gift shop within the center is not to be overlooked. From comical rubber loons to beautiful jewelry by local artisans, take a loon home with you.
5. The Nature Lover
Here's the place for those earthy folks. The ones that smell like the great outdoors — even when they're indoors. That ones that gravitate toward words like natural, organic, and green. Pine soap bars are heaven sent. This light, fresh scent will remind you of walking through a pine forest. And at less than three dollars you can add on a balsam pillow. Ahhh, pines and balsams.
The Adirondack Trading Company has been a staple on Broadway for years. With a rustic inventory from home decor to jewelry to souvenirs, step inside for a truly Adirondack shopping experience.
6. The Person Who Has Everything
We ALL have one of these. They have everything — and then some. And they're always the first to tell you they don't need anything. But, seriously, you still have to. You could get them a blender, however a better bet would be an original one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Saranac Lake has great artists, and many sell their work in galleries downtown. The NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery on Woodruff Street is home to twelve artists. It has a rich selection of art in a wide range of media.
So, there you have it. Shopping made easy. Hmm, now that your list is covered, perhaps it's time to celebrate with a fancy coffee and homemade dessert from one of our awesome eateries!
