Fun in the fall. Naturally!
Fall is a favorite season for many locals and visitors alike. The days are full of crisp, clean air, and the nights are cool and cozy. You won’t find a prettier place to view the colors of the season. The mountains are painted in bold reds, oranges that pop, and vibrant yellows – a stunning contrast against the deep blue of the lakes.
To add to the beauty of the season is the excitement of all the fall fun to partake in! Check out the colorful happenings in store:
The Great Adirondack Corn Maze
Open from August through the last weekend in October, the Great Adirondack Corn Maze is a fall classic! Equal parts entertaining and challenging, it is fun for all ages. To get in the spooky spirit of the season check out flashlight nights, every Friday and Saturday from dusk until 10 p.m.
Adirondack Rural Skills and Homestead Festival
Saranac Lake not only displays some of the best fall foliage anywhere, it is also ready for the casual explorer. Driving Route 86 delivers the goods, especially the 16-mile stretch of road from the center of town to Paul Smiths, right from your car window. At Paul Smiths, spend the day at the Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC). On September 28, the VIC hosts the Adirondack Rural Skills & Homestead Festival celebrating the talents of a bygone era with Adirondack flair! There are dozens of workshops from cider making to primitive skills. And the always popular Paul Smith’s College Woodsmen’s Team will demonstrate competitive lumberjack sports. Warm drinks and yummy treats will be aplenty.
Life Flight Pumpkinfest
No fall is complete without attending at least one pumpkinfest, right?! Life Flight Pumpkinfest is a true community event with all the good stuff, including games, arts and crafts, music, food, cake walk, and pumpkins. A different spin on this pumpkinfest is that it's at the airport! The Adirondack Regional Airport is in Lake Clear, a scenic 9 miles from downtown Saranac Lake. Check out aircraft displays, take a ride down the runway in a service vehicle, and you might even see a plane fly overhead. A cool bonus is that the proceeds of this event benefit the Life Flight air medical rescue team.
Downtown Trick or Treating
Saranac Lakers can be found outdoors with their kids and dogs swapping fall adventure stories. If you want in on the action just show up for the downtown trick-or-treating. On Halloween, Saranac Lake closes the streets from Main to Broadway and the shop owners pass out goodies. This is real, small-town fun for the whole family. Creativity abounds here, so dress to impress!
If you’re looking for a fall weekend getaway, this is the place. The weather is ideal for exploring the great outdoors, there’s plenty to see and do downtown, as well as places where you can lay your head.
