Of course, when it comes to getting away, "girls" can be any age. Because no matter how accomplished a woman is, she will always enjoy a time away from her responsibilities. The greater the challenges, the more necessary stepping away can become.
It is incredibly rejuvenating to find a welcoming atmosphere, where one can be herself, with her friends, and do fun girl things. I love it!
Here's why Saranac Lake is an awesome girls' getaway place.
Many ways to unplug
Relaxation? Saranac Lake didn't invent it, but we've got a lot of special in our options. Explore the quaint downtown with its many spa and massage options, or head into the woods for a guided nature experience with Forest Bathing. The guide at Adirondack Riverwalking introduces you to the forest in a whole new way, designed to create an "immersion of the senses" into the natural world.
Whatever group activity appeals, there's probably an interesting local twist. Meditation class? You can experience Sound Healing in the Adirondacks, where relaxation is taken to a whole new level with a "sound bath" guided by Andrea Lisette Villiere. The resonance of her instruments deepen the experience, whether it is simple relaxation or a deep transformative meditation.
Take to our lakes, ponds, and rivers for wonderful scenic views and picnic opportunities. Our outfitters can get you set up for a morning, an afternoon, or a whole day with a gourmet picnic lunch.
I love a whole day on the water, but we don't have to go far to find the beauty. Saranac Lake has an extensive park system throughout the town, much of it accessible through our walkable downtown with lots of coffee, homemade treats, artisan crafts, and art galleries. Depending on your group, you can be as close, or as far, from civilization as you wish. Choose from expansive nature tours to relaxing strolls through outstanding scenery.

Eat and drink
Another favorite part of my girl getaways are the long, leisurely, ladies' lunches. Or breakfasts, or dinners. The whole point is not rushing, whether you get a sandwich picnic to eat by the lake or get a table right after the lunch rush.
Saranac Lake is almost all owner-on-premises, chef-in-the-back, kinds of places. From our famed New York pizza and delis to our finer dining, such as that provided by the culinary students of Paul Smith's College, there's something that is sure to appeal to everyone in the group.
Fussy? So am I. I'm gluten-free, I have friends who are vegetarian and vegan, and one way or another, we manage to find just-right meeting places to make us all happy.
See our range of dining. Choose from lodging options that are some of the broadest in all of the Adirondacks - whether you're searching for a cozy room lakeside, within walking distance of dining, or a place with an onsite restaurant and nature trails are right outside your door.
Plenty to do
A great girls' getaway offers plenty to do, and plenty to do that doesn't seem like "something to do." Time to spend in low-pressure ways are an important part of the getaway experience. Our full range of outdoor activities gives the group plenty of maneuvering room when it comes to how much and how far. But there are also the summer Art Walks and Pendragon performances if we like a bit of culture, too.
There are art openings, live music venues, and plenty of fun festivals. Check our events calendar for some exquisite timing.
Have it all... or choose nothing at all. The important thing is being together, outside of the day-to-day.
Into the magic of the Adirondacks.
