What is farm-to-table?
If you haven’t done your homework, we’ll give you the low-down. Farm-to-table dining means exactly what you’d think! A social movement providing restaurants with a direct source of ingredients from local farms, usually through direct acquisition from a farmer. Farm-to-table dining ensures the success of local farms all over the Adirondacks, and the deliciousness of the food you enjoy around town. It's a win-win! Farm-to-table is a trend that’s here to stay in Saranac Lake. Your favorite spots have started to adopt this way of sourcing and preparing food! The list is growing by the day; see how your favorite restaurants are adopting the tradition.

Indoor farmers market
Saranac Lake stays committed to its local farms every season. When the snow starts to fall or it's just a little too chilly to stand outside and visit all the delicious farm stands, you’ll find the market indoors! Enjoy a break from the wind and indulge in the local produce, crafts, and baked goods of the region. The indoor market takes place in Hotel Saranac every Saturday! Take your time and visit the stands, there are so many to see! Local vendors come from all over to showcase their prized goods; you'll be happy you stopped in. As if it wasn't easy enough to drive downtown, you can now order ahead. Orders can be placed Monday through Thursday, so you can grab all your loot and be ready to hit the road in minutes! If you're shopping through all the stands (and we hope you do), take the time to get to know the farmers and artisans who fill the market! Getting to know who produces your food on a personal level can make you feel all kinds of good about the flavors going into your next dish.
A sustainable food future
When you shop straight from the farmers of the region, you'll have peace of mind throughout the process. You'll know exactly who grew the crop, who harvested it, and who sold the product. Buying local is just another facet of Saranac Lake's growing agritourism movement! By strengthening our local farms, your buying power helps solidify farm-to-table practices in Saranac Lake for years to come! And the more you buy, the more restaurants will adopt the practice as well. Not only do farmer's markets offer sustainably cultivated foods, but they're also just fun to visit. Some of the best memories can be made on a bright Saturday morning, hunting for the freshest produce, a locally made smoothie, or some more oat and honey soap! Bring your bag, or several, and feel proud of the bounty you find. Bonding and spending time with the businesses that feed Saranac Lake is the perfect way to feel more connected with the region, and the best way to give back to our local harvesters, crafters, and bakers. The farmer's market is here to stay, so take advantage and buy locally!
