Adirondack Riverwalking & Forest Bathing
Whether you are a first time visitor or a regular to the Adirondacks, we look forward to guiding you on unique outdoor experiences that will transform how you perceive and relate to nature, allowing you to feel yourself a part of the land, in an environment that fosters community and well being. We carefully create sensory adventures that ignite your sense of wonder and renew your childhood playfulness without the pressure of goals or objectives. Your wellbeing, and nature's, are at the heart of everything we do.
Sensory Snowshoeing
Imagine yourself in a snowy forest. Notice the patterns of light and shadow on the snow. Cup your ears forward with your hands, like deer ears, to amplify the forest sounds. The breeze rustling in the pine trees? The crunch of your snowshoes? Listen to the silence between the sounds. Inhale the scent of evergreen needles on cool crisp air. Discover the distinct texture of each tree's bark. There's so much to notice...
Think of Sensory Snowshoeing as having this loose framework that includes guided sensory activities with time on your own to explore. Your certified and experienced guide will help you slow down, so you can notice so much more around you, so you can get up close to nature. A new experience shared with family and friends can strengthen the bonds between you, and with nature.
Sensory Snowshoeing is a guided experience in a winter forest, engaging all your senses. It is also a wellness practice with several decades of science to identify its health benefits, which include reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep and boosting your immune system. And when you use your senses intentionally, it makes you mindful, effortlessly. There is no better place to experience it than the winter wonderland of the Adirondacks!
Sensory Snowshoeing is a 2.5 hour experience, which includes time to get geared up and to get comfortable with snowshoes, if this is your first time. There are a variety of trails in the Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake area we like to use, so we can choose one that is easily accessible for you. Driving directions and recommendations for what to wear and bring will be sent with your booking confirmation.
We are available to guide you every day of the week. Book early so we are available on the day of your choice.
Maximum group size is 8 people. Children 7 and up are welcome.
About Us
Adirondack Riverwalking & Forest Bathing is the partnership of two Certified Forest & Nature Therapy guides as well as licensed NY State Hiking Guides who feel passionate about strengthening the bonds between people and nature. Our offerings include Riverwalking during the summer months and Forest Bathing throughout the year.
We support Leave No Trace nature ethics. Attentive care has been given to making our eco-trips environment-friendly and our relationship with nature one of reciprocity. We are proud partners with the Ausable River Association and The Wild Center, as well as members of the Children & Nature Network. We give back by donating both our time and a portion of our profits to support the work of local organizations such as ADK Action, the Paul Smiths VIC and Dewey Mountain Recreation Area.
