Whether you like dogs or love dogs, there is no breed quite like the Adirondog. Known not for its purity of form but rather its purity of heart and love of adventure, dogs that enter (or live within) the Blue Line all qualify as Adirondogs.
Some Adirondogs are peak baggers while others are stick hunters and mud finders. Still others are content to enjoy the view from the bow of a canoe or to chase tennis balls in the yard. But no matter what activities your canine friend loves, they’re sure to feel at home in the Adirondacks.
In addition to tagging along with their humans, Adirondogs can take advantage of endless miles of trails, countless swimming areas, and piles of scat to roll in. There’s also a somewhat pervasive pro-dog attitude in most Adirondack towns, with outside dog-friendly seating available at restaurants and shops that put out bowls of water on the sidewalk. Lots of lodging options are pet-friendly as well. But if dogs aren’t your thing, don’t sweat it, the Adirondacks are big and there’s plenty of room for everyone.
While having a dog - especially an Adirondog - is amazing, it’s also important for humans to abide by rules and regulations and just common decency when out on the trail or in a public place. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash, clean up after it, and don’t let it chase or disturb wildlife. Other than that, it’s just a matter of choosing which Adirondack adventure you and your Adirondog will love the most.
In addition to countless options for you and your canine companion, Saranac Lake has events and activities that will make your trip fun for the whole family - whether they have two legs or four.
