A decidedly different spring is in the air!
Welcome the season of spring in the fresh mountain air of Saranac Lake! With a long-standing focus on wellness and the arts, we have plenty to keep you entertained and engaged during this season of growth and renewal. Festive and fun art and live music events, and a wide range of activities with everything from a leisurely trek on the accessible brick-paved Riverwalk along the Saranac River to paddling and stargazing make Saranac Lake the place to be this season.
A vibrant town culture
Saranac Lake is well known for its active arts scene, boasting numerous galleries and studios throughout town, and uniquely creative works like the Bug Crawl and the delightful sidewalk poems of Raining Poetry Project. In addition to Saranac Lake's lively present-day culture, step into its storied history by taking a stroll through the Walk of Fame, or visiting any of the museums, notable landmarks, and cultural centers.
Outdoor activities
Spring is a wonderful time for outdoor fun! Explore the trail system at The Pines, picnic at one of Saranac Lake's well-maintained parks, pick your path at the Paul Smith's VIC, or delight in the spring wildflowers blooming in the scenic wetlands at Bloomingdale Bog trail. Biking is excellent in the spring, both in town and throughout the region, and mountain bike enthusiasts will be keen to check out Harrietstown Bike Park and the Adirondack Rail Trail, the new multi-use recreational trail that connects the scenic communities of Lake Placid, Ray Brook, Saranac Lake, Lake Clear, and Tupper Lake.
On the water
Surrounded by lakes and ponds, Saranac Lake is well-known as a world-class paddling destination, and home to New York state's only designated Canoe Area, the 18,400 acre Saint Regis Canoe Area. Head out on the calm, glassy waters for a couple hours of leisure lake-life, or try your hand at island camping and spend a peaceful night stargazing next to the campfire. Explore five paddling routes to complete the Saranac Lake Paddling Challenge and earn a patch – or come during June for the Celebrate Paddling ADK festival, which features lectures and historical discussions at local establishments, a river cleanup, and paddling activities on nearby waters.
Love your ADK
The magic of the Adirondacks is the result of previous generations taking a long view and protecting the mountains, lakes, and rivers within the Blue Line. That tradition continues today as we support and encourage everyone to practice Leave No Trace ethics, which help protect the lands and waters of the Adirondacks.
