About the Artist:

Join Alan Simon for an evening of Indian Classical Music at The Garagery. Part educational and part musical performance, Alan will share his experience playing Tabla around the world, and the significance of this instrument to Indian classical music.

Alan Simon has been playing the Tabla for nearly two decades. He has been under the tutelage of Ustad Bashir Khan, an exponent of the Punjab Gharana, and is currently studying with Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, brother of world-renowned Ustad Zakir Hussein.

Alan graduated from the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Pakistan, with a major in Tabla Performance. After graduating he delved into Percussion from different regions – Afro-Cuban and the Drumset. Alan transposed tabla rhythms and wrote interlocking parallel rhythms for the instruments he played.

With his diverse knowledge of Percussion, he has been globe-trotting and has performed in Pakistan, India, Thailand, and the US.

Alan has had the honor of performing for the President of Pakistan Pervaiz Musharraf; for the International Festival at the National School of Drama in New Delhi; and at prestigious universities like Harvard and Cornell – just to name a few of his performances.

He has featured on major TV and Radio shows in Pakistan with his project TAAL KARISMA and has been named ‘The Pioneer of Body Percussions in Pakistan.’ He also has been featured in the local newspaper Adirondack Daily Enterprise and other publications in New York.

Alan has invited singer/songwriter Charlie Reinertsen to perform as the opening act from 7:30pm-8:00pm. Alan's performance will be from 8:00-9:00pm.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

Additional support is provided by BNB-Buddy and Bluebird Lake Placid.

This event is organized by Twolined Studio, with event space donated by The Garagery.
