The summer is winding down, and we need to be sure to pack in as much fair-weather fun as we can! The next couple of weeks are full of enjoyable and exciting events, guaranteed to get you moving, eating and dancing to the music!
6th Annual Farm2Fork Festival - Saturday, September 5
“Love your Farmer, Love Your Food” is the tag line for the annual Farm2Fork Festival, and you’ll definitely learn to love your farmer at this annual event! The festival – whose theme this year is Mediterranean – will take place on Saturday, September 5 from 9am-5pm at Saranac Lake’s Riverside Park. Partnering with “Taste NY,” the festival expands Governor Cuomo’s initiative to promote foods and beverages made in NY State by promoting the local foods and farms of the Northern Adirondacks.
Tasting Tickets are very reasonable and get you a full day of fun! A full Tasting Ticket is $10, allowing you to taste at eight Home Cook Stations, the Pickle Bar, and the Ice Cream Booth, as well as a few drinks at the Artisan Beverage Bar! A Vegetarian Ticket for $8 reduces your Home Cook Station tastings by two, but gets you all the rest that the full ticket buys. Sounds like a great deal to me!
Just to whet your appetite, last year the Home Cooks brought such delicious dishes as cold cucumber soup, herb focaccia, smoked bacon, zucchini and mushroom frittata, and Korean pork sliders with spicy quick kimchi! Is your mouth watering? There was also maple cake, all kinds of delicious options at the pickle and ice cream bars, and awesome drinks. I can’t wait!
This year’s festival includes a food art competition, face painting by the Saranac Lake High School Green Team, and a variety of vendors and informational booths by local producers and organizations. And don't forget to bring your appetite!
7th Annual Hobo Fest - Sunday, September 6
After you get your fill at the Farm2Fork Festival on Saturday, make sure you return to Riverside Park for the 7th Annual Hobo Fest on Sunday, September 6. What a great way to top off your holiday weekend celebration! The Hobo Fest is a free concert that goes from noon until dark, celebrating our American roots culture and the hobo spirit.

Adirondack Canoe Classic - 90 Miler Race - September 11-13
Adirondack summer fun doesn’t end with Labor Day: the following weekend offers some great fun for avid boaters and lovers of the Adirondack experience! Canoers, kayakers and guide-boaters will enjoy the Adirondack Canoe Classic – 90 Miler Race, a three-day event that begins at Old Forge on September 11 and winds up at Saranac Lake on September 13. More than 500 participants from all over the world will paddle and camp along the chain of lakes and rivers traveled by early European settlers and local Adirondack guides. There are groups for all paddlers, from recreational to professional, and it’s a great way to experience the Adirondacks in a whole new way! A ceremonial dinner is held for all boaters at the end of the race.
